The story begins in 2001, when work brought us, Caroline and me to the Pontiac region. Back then, I was a wood scaler and a wildlife and forest products processing technician and my wife, a school teacher. One day, we had the once-in-a-lifetime chance to buy a fantastic 200-acre estate in the Municipality of Otter Lake. What a perfect spot to start a new life!
Little by little, the idea of opening our own business starts to sound more and more interesting. And why not a dogsledding company? Since I was young I had been fascinated by this sport, and it seems to me like a nice way of honoring my late uncle François Bruneau, whom had been practicing dogsledding since 1985. I was even lucky enough to keep one of his dogs, Mouki. We opened our business in 2004.
Today our kennel has 49 dogs, most of them descendants of Mouki. We bought several pieces of land and now we own 1 200 acres. We have also hired some employees and we have diversified our activities to be able to welcome customers all year-round.
But our desire to add more projects under our belts and to offer unique experiences in our business has not changed at all. Yes, we both still exercise our professions and we are always busy but we are still passionate about our family business. And we are not planning on stopping any time soon!
Did you know: we chose the name Escapade Huskimo to make reference to siberian huskies, the race of our dogs, but also to Kimo, the lead dog of my uncle François.
